usability
so i have been on the quest…..not a real long one but none the less a quest to find an open source eye tracking capture and analysis software that is comparable to morae
for those of you who are new…”morae is an innovative software-based solution for usability testing that enhances data collection and speeds up analysis.”
(retrieved on feb 15 from techsmith)
why one may ask?
i actually want to do a usability test on an open source eye tracking software…..why because i think that would be fun

web code
the thing about me….
first off that sounds like a bad 60 musical…soon i will break out in song well climbing a mountain clutching to a laptop that is connected to my server wondering oh why there are so so many different types of coding language out there and why i end up learning them
so today is the day that i learn how to actually code in python in order to create something functional……its one thing to create something that looks pretty it is another to create something that functions
so this abstract speak i am speaking of has some meaning this is the story……i am currently customizing cds invenio
which is a library management tool and it is wonderful! what do i mean by wonderful it has everything i have always dreamed of (except a pony of course) so the catch obviosly is how to take all these modules and make them work for me….or actually for my data…….
that is where python comes in
in order to create customized MARC records within invenio you must follow about five steps than play with HTML and python to get the look and functionality that all library users would love!
i of course have nothing new to report other than this is what i am doing……half the time and the other half i am developing a layout and guideline for how to build a usability lab…why would i do this…..one because it is interesting and two i need to know how much money to get a loan for
i never do anything small and it is my goal to build a usability lab to assist in the over all mission in life…….making things user friendly!
until later wish me luck with python

usability
what happened to square monitors?
i know it is all about moving forward right?
but i maintain and develop websites for a target audience that more than likely is still working with CRT monitors from 1980……so is it wise for me to work on a monitor that is wide? should i do all my design work on a monitor that mimics that of the target audience? i would be curious to hear other web designers opinions on this matter……
aside from that i am busy learning more about python than i care to and more about database structure than i wanted to.
i have started dreaming in code (which i am not sure is a good thing) and i have also started drawing mental diagrams of how things work within my house……..
so the kitchen is a facet that has several nodes right? the oven node, the sink node….you get the picture
it’s sort of like my quest to create a usability study on the layout and function of a starbucks…..one would think that the cash register would be in an area that makes sense…i wonder if the designer is left handed?

digital asset,
open source
another day at the farm
considering the in and outs of database management within the confines of non-profit……
what this means is somewhere out there exists a image database that can support 300,000 record in any crazy configuration my little librarian and information architecture mind can dream of……..
so distorted seeing data as nothing more than modeling clay that needs to be shaped into a rat one minute and a building another
all this rambling can be defined as this:
my problem…i need a system that can do lots
- OAI
- metadata schemas that include: dublin core : MARC : XML : VRA : CDWA
- controlled vocab and pick lists
- security access on an object level and a collection level
- multiple collections that can support multiple objects from varied collections (if that makes sense)
- oh wow there is so much more….
- workflow: approval process, authors, users
- batch import of up to but limited to 100,000 objects
- light box or e-commerce style attributes
- something i do not manually have to re-code
- FREE
what i have looked at……
if there are any messing please let me know as i continue my search to combine two words that in the tech word never go together desire and receive!
